The Lineup

This year's lineup is completely stacked. 4B, Above and Beyond, Jauz, Benny Benassi, Matroda, Kompany, Nitti Gritti, Zedd, Zeds Dead, and Zomboy are just some of the artists that will be performing. Beyond is having two major back-to-backs. Crystal Skies b2b Nurko and Kai Wachi b2b Phaseone. These will be legendary. If you’re a fan of Seven Lion’s label Ophelia Records, I’d suggest attending this event. Ophelia Records will be taking over Beyond Wonderland. Jason Ross, Gem and Tauri, Mitis, Crystal Skies, and the legend himself, Seven Lions will also be performing. 2022 is going to be a massive year for this label, and I can’t wait to see it.

The Passes

Passes for 2022 have already gone on sale, so get them while you can. General admission is starting at $139 for two days. General admission plus is $189 for the two days. For my VIP goers, passes are starting at $249 for both days. Beyond is offering a more exclusive side to the festival. The SkyDeck tables include bottle service, a restricted private area, some of the best views of the stages, and a golf cart transport to your table. To enjoy the SkyDeck tables, you must 21 years old and provide a valid ID at check-in. If you decide to enjoy the SkyDeck tables, you will be given a separate wristband along with your GA, GA+, or VIP one.

The Experience

The theme of the event is Alice in Wonderland. Not only do you get to listen to some great music, but you get to travel beyond into a whole new world. The stages that have been announced are the Queen’s Domain, Mad Hatter’s Castle, Caterpillar’s Garden, and Cheshire Woods. There are more to be announced, so keep an eye out. Beyond will also have art installations and performers that make the event come to life. You might get to live out your childhood fantasy of meeting Alice and the Queen of Hearts themselves.

What to Wear

Beyond Wonderland 2022 is going to be an amazing event that you won’t want to miss. If you’re debating on attending, I say go for it. The lineup is incredible and the theme is unique. So not only do you get to dress cute, but you also get to experience a completely different event with Insomniac. Remember to spread positivity and love, be kind, care for each other, and explore. Beyond Wonderland Pacific Northwest was a two day festival that happened between October 1st-2nd with a pre-party that happened in the venue on September 30th for people that were camping. Although the weather is usually cold and windy this time of the year, it was very mild all weekend. Since it was a little chilly at night people prepared and brought their A-game with their night time outfits. 

There were three stages at Beyond Wonderland Pacific Northwest: Fractal Valley, Cheshire Woods, and Caterpillar’s Garden. Fractal Valley overlooked the beautiful Gorge, and people watching sets from the pit and the hill could enjoy the stunning view while also enjoying their favorite sets. Some artists that played there were The Chainsmokers, Said the Sky, Tiesto, Joyryde, Benny Benassi, and Rezz. Caterpillar’s Garden had a lot of house artists such as Green Velvet, Sidepiece, Wax Motif, and Malaa. And lastly, Cheshire Woods had a lot of bass artists such as G Jones, Virtual Riot, Kayzo, Sullivan King, and Svdden Death. My personal favorites from the night were Benny Benassi, Sidepiece, Said the Sky, and Claptone. 

There were a lot of things besides the music at the venue as well. To go along with the Alice in Wonderland theme, there were a ton of art installations. There were inflatable mushrooms everywhere, a giant art installation of a rabbit, tea pots and cups, the whole venue had turned into a raver  theme park. There was also a ferris wheel, which gave you an amazing view of the whole festival, and a spinning ride for those thrill seekers. Many vendors had their booths there, so if you wanted to buy last-minute festival accessories to complete your look, you had many options. There were a lot of different choices for food as well, such as ice cream, noodles, poutine, and chicken tenders.

What is Beyond Wonderland?

This festival takes place August 27th -28th at the NOS Events Center located in San Bernardino. This festival will take you down the rabbit hole with its Alice in Wonderland theme and lots of multidimensional decorations and amazing stages. 

Who is playing at Beyond Wonderland?

This year’s festival has a lineup that is stacked both days, with headliners such as Dillon Francis, Tiesto, Valentino Khan, Wooli, Alison Wonderland, Gryffin, Barely Alive b2b Modestep b2b Virtual Riot and many more! There are also lots of themed stages, including Dreamstate, Basscon and Factory 93, where you can definitely find various types of music that’s right up your alley and genres to explore. 

What to Bring

With a two day festival that goes all day and night, it is nice to arrive prepared. Here are some helpful items that will make your time at the festival much more enjoyable.

• Festival ticket: this year, attendants will receive a wristband to get into the festival. Make sure to slip it on your wrist (not too tight or loose) and keep it on for the weekend so that you don’t lose it!
• Vaccine card/negative COVID-19 test: it is important to stay healthy for this year’s festivals and with that, the festival has rules on the COVID-19 vaccine and negative test verification before entering. Make sure you have proof of this in the form of a copy or digital proof on your phone before heading to the festival
• Masks: masks are strongly encouraged for everyone despite vaccinated status so bring some cute ones to match your outfit! homegameauction has lots of cute ones you can find here
• Hydration pack: you can find lots of cute bags on homegameauction here that not only look cute and can carry lots of items, but will keep you hydrated all day
• Fanny pack: if you’re not a fan of carrying a big bag, a fanny pack is super convenient that can give you easy access to important items like your phone and wallet
• Hand fan: with the festival taking place in the summer and in SoCal weather, it is nice to have a large fan that you can use to cool off you and your crew. You can find a variety of fans and accessories here
• Earplugs: if you like head banging on the rails, it’s nice to bring some artist or foam earplugs to protect your hearing!
• Sunscreen/sunglasses: it’s super important to keep your skin and eyes protected from the sun being at the festival all day, so bring some sunglasses and sunscreen that you can apply throughout the day. 
• Flow toys: flow toys are allowed at Beyond Wonderland so if you have any, definitely bring them with you to show off your moves in the crowd!
• Gum: chewing on gum is super refreshing while in a crowd at a festival so bring them with, unopened

Beyond Wonderland has earned its well-deserved spot among my list of all time favorite festivals and I can’t wait to journey back for my fourth year. It presents the perfect setting to unveil your inner lunatic among the court of insane artists, bizarre performers, and crazy vibes. Whether you’re a frequent Wonderland resident or have yet to stumble down the rabbit hole, there are plenty of reasons to secure your ticket for this year’s fest. 

Here are three magical reasons to travel to Beyond Wonderland: 

1. The Alice in Wonderland Theme:

“I’m not crazy. My reality is just different than yours.” You’ll be smiling as big as the Cheshire Cat when you walk through the gates of Beyond completely immersed in the new reality that is Wonderland. Beyond has become one of Insomniac’s most iconic fests of the year with a large part of that success being devoted to the theme. 

Walking through the gates you’ll see an array of vibrant flowers, larger than life-sized chess pieces, trippy patterns, and one wandering giant caterpillar. The decor is pulled straight from your imagination and the kooky characters wandering the grounds are sure to make you question if you’ve stumbled into a storybook.

2. The Lineup

I’ve been more than impressed with Beyond Wonderland’s lineups in the past, and this year is no different. This year’s artists include a diverse list of top DJs from just about every genre of EDM. From bass to house to techno to trance, there will always be something that will perk up your ears and entice you to join a stage. 

With a lineup this stacked, it will definitely be difficult to choose who to lock in on your setlist. I highly recommend listening to a few tracks from each artist, especially the ones you might not be familiar with. You never know who you might become a fan of early on in their music career! But if you would like some choice opinions, here are a few artists I’m mad as a hatter over: 

Infected Mushroom (Live)

The most anticipated on my list is Infected Mushroom. Their funky psytrance beats are enough to keep me groovin' like a maniac. Not to mention, their live sets include a full band on stage which always brings an infectious excitement to a set’s atmosphere.

Mija

The announcement of Mija on a lineup sparked my attention immediately. Even though she plays around the globe, I personally haven’t seen her on a SoCal lineup in years. She quickly grabs your attention with her creative sets and holds it with her unique drops. While she started off her career in house, her sound has crossed and melded genres, leaving a show that will always defy expectations in only the best way.

Kayzo

Heading to a Kayzo set is always a good idea. Whether you want a quick pick me up, a face-melting show, or literally want to lose your head, Kayzo is your man to get the job done. His incredible sound of hard bass paired with mind-blowing visuals brings an energy like no other that washes over the crowd and gets everyone on their feet.

3. The Experience

Out of all the festivals I’ve attended, Beyond Wonderland always seems to bring the best vibes among the volunteers, employees, artists, and attendees. This is one of the first festivals that kick off the year and everyone is rested and ready to start the season with incredible energy.

This festival has so many perks, including: interactive art, a beautiful venue with trippy decorations, insanely flamboyant characters, themed-rides, and 4+ breathtaking stages. Beyond’s main stages diversify the venue’s various sounds while always dispelling crowds. Not to mention each stage is well covered in case of the (pretty unlikely) chance of bad weather.

Insomniac absolutely nailed the theme this year! As usual, the performers were totally in character and really helped us headliners to feel like we were actually interacting with the creatures of Wonderland. The scene was also set by the insane art installations and decor. No matter where I was, I was constantly surrounded by giant photo opps, psychedelic lights, and trippy mushroom statues. Stage production also hit the mark on this one; the Queen’s Domain stage had me feeling like I was actually in a castle. The creativity was off the charts - walking into Wonderland was such a magical feeling, and I truly channeled my inner Alice all weekend!

In addition to the infamous life-size chess pieces and bumpin’ art car, some new attractions have been introduced to Beyond and have easily become my favorite. First off, the Flight of the Elephants ride was such a fun little addition! Although the line was long, this ride was well worth the wait; when our elephant began to “fly,” we went so high that I could literally see the entire NOS Event Center all lit up. It was such a beautiful and rare sight to see, it was so magical! Then after the initial shock of how beautiful it was all wore off, I looked around at the other riders and noticed that we were all headbanging so intensely to Eprom (who performed at Mad Hatter’s Castle, the closest stage to the Elephants). My friend and I were both laughing so hard at how FRICKIN DOPE it was that we were all in our own little world up in the sky, headbanging to the same beats. It was definitely one of those happy tear moments. :’)

Another new feature this year was the Rabbit Hole. Beyond really brought the Rabbit hole to life-- walking inside was like falling down a hole through an alternate time dimension… and once I reached inside, I knew I was about to be here for a while. The shipwrecked-esque stage was massive and playing some of the hottest EDM hits. “Drink Me” read the sign above the bar, where people were grabbing drinks left and right. I also got to watch a ton of flow artists doing there thing while I sat under a giant mushroom and traded lots of kandi with cool strangers (rave goals, right?). The Rabbit Hole was such an intimate location for social gathering, meeting new people, and gettin’ down to the groove in a low-key setting.

In terms of the music, let me tell you, there was not a single moment that I was not dancing my a$$ off. This year’s lineup was straight perfection, and not a single artist let us down. Every DJ threw down hard AF, but some of my favorite sets were Cray, Eprom, Don Diablo, and Zhu.

Not only were the stages poppin’, but the Looking Glass Stage was LIT from start to finish. From chillin’ between sets to dancing like nobody’s watching, the Looking Glass was the spot for it all. Beyond’s home for househeads and techno brats, the Looking Glass Stage had an intimate DJ set up with its own full lineup, as well as lots of space to rest, hang out, trade kandi, find lost squad members, and of course, dance!  

Overall, Beyond Wonderland was an experience full of fantastic tunes!

My time at Beyond Wonderland this year went beyond all expectations! There is no place like Beyond Wonderland, and I plan to attend again and again. Going back to reality from this mystifying, whimsical world is going to be a tough transition. Thank you, Beyond, for bringing me new friends, music, and memories!

Why: This dynamic duo is notorious for giving their trance tracks an Egyptian flare. Having known each other since kindergarten, they also host an Internet radio show, Future Sound of Egypt. Aly & Fila produce uplifting beats that sound great through headphones and even greater live! If you’re looking to discover new music and move to the groove all night, then this is a set you definitely cannot miss.

Who: Rezz (Space Mom)

What: : Techno

When: Friday

Where: Queen’s Domain

Why: From the most minimal techno to intricate experimental beats, Rezz has mastered it all. Rezz is a badass both on and off stage, and her heavy sets are definitely a reflection. The last time I saw Rezz, she actually reached her hand to the crowd and grabbed my soul… or at least it felt like it. Seriously though, if you’re into jaw-dropping sets that leave you in a warped yet content awe, then be sure to score a good spot for Rezz’s set.

Who: Ganja White Night

What: Dubstep

When: Friday

Where: Mad Hatter’s Castle

Why: Ganja White Night brings such originality to their “Bass Wobbling” sounds. Influenced by dubstep, they have successfully avoided the cliches of the genre and focus on integrating bass with melodic lines. Both members of the duo are self-taught DJ’s and have rightfully earned respect in the industry.

Who: Ekali

What: Future Bass

When: Saturday

Where: Mad Hatter’s Castle

Why: This Canadian instrumentalist and producer is by far my top set for the weekend! Ekali never fails to deliver a dynamic and original performance at every festival. He shows his fans a lot of love on Twitter and genuinely cares about their input. Whether you are headbanging on the rail, vibing in the crowd, or dancing in the back, Ekali’s set will be engaging from start to finish.

Kandi making is something that I’ve learned I am no expert in. I can make a few cute singles, but there are some people who have such an amazing sense of 3D art that they build structures with their cuffs. Kandi is in full force at Insomniac Events and I love that they let everyone bring it in. It’s such a random part of the EDM community and it’s purely creative.

There’s always going to be those people who don’t layer, and God bless them -they own it! I always say, whatever the look is that you’re going to rock, make sure you’re going to OWN it and it doesn’t matter! Confidence shines!

Also, guys are getting into it too, which is great! Now the whole squad can reminisce about the rave that was 3 weeks ago as they continue to find glitter in EVERYTHING.

Held at the NOS Events Center in San Bernadino, California, Beyond Wonderland is annual spring festival hosted by Insomniac Events. Many attendees (like myself) look forward to kicking off festival season at this Alice-in-wonderland themed event. 

Here are five things I’m looking forward to most about Beyond Wonderland:

1. The Music (duh!) - I was so stoked to see the Beyond Wonderland 2018 lineup come out and I’m looking forward to several acts. This lineup is extremely diverse and is sure to keep everybody in your squad happy. Personally, I’m extra excited to see Seven Lions (for the first time, yay!) and Valentino Khan!

4. The Theme - Last year Beyond Wonderland took a brief hiatus from the Alice and Wonderland theme and went with an "Under the Sea" theme. I thought this was cool, but I absolutely LOVE anything Alice related. From my Halloween costumes as a kid (and adult) to reading the book, watching the movies, and loving the ride at Disneyland, I can safely say my appreciation for Wonderland Culture runs deep. Needless to say, I was excited to see the theme revealed this year.

5. The Weather - I don't know why, but I just love the idea of kicking off my festival season at an outdoor event. Having fostered my raving career for the last six years in the PNW, SoCal Raves are particularly glorious to me. During the majority of the year in Southern California (March in particular), you can run around in shorts without freezing your rave booty off (literally). This is something completely unheard of to me and I’m looking forward to enjoying the sunshine in shorts and a crop top.
